A HOUSE WITH TWO FACES

We think of this as the Janus House for the way it connects two seemingly contradictory aspects of the city: one is the lushly landscaped walk street near the Venice Boardwalk, and the other is the gritty, slightly dangerous urban alley. Two volumes of light organize the dual nature of the spaces. The house resolves a seeming paradox: the two oppositional aspects are interdependent. The architecture integrates artwork by Nancy Monk.
